Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage

There are three nine-hole courses at Rancho Las Palmas North, West and South courses. Each nine has its own character and personality that presents a mixture of challenges for golfers of all skill and handicap level.

The 27 holes Ted Robinson designed courses at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa opened in the late 1970s. This is perfect layout and shot making opportunity for the average golfer. Each of the nines provides 4 tee boxes to select from to fit every player’s skill and ability to ensure an enjoyable golfing experience. This is unapologetically resort style golf with plenty of scoring holes. This is a great course to either get in a quick 9 or combine any of the courses for 18 or 27 holes of golf pleasure. This is desert resort golf as it was meant to be.

The North Course at Rancho Las Palmas offers two par 5s that are reachable on the front 9 (within the first five holes) and just to add a little drama there are a couple of potentially drivable par 4s, which makes for some excitement for the weekend warrior golfers. A number of sweeping elevated tee boxes creates panoramic scenery of the Coachella Valley, making this a truly memorable golf experience.

Most greens are generously spacious with reachable hole placements, but expect many of the greens to be protected by sand bunkers that await errant approach shots.

The West Course at Rancho Las Palmas two par 5s and three par 3s which would have you believing this might be an easy scoring opportunity. Don’t be fooled. The second hole is 235 yard par 3 that requires both muscle and finesse to escape with a par. Then immediately after that you enter the second phase of this two hole gauntlet, a massive 645 yard par 5 on the No. 3 hole that requires 3 great shots to reach in regulation.

After a relatively common dogleg par 4 No. 4 hole there is the No. 5 hole, on paper a deceiving 300 yard par 4, but beware of the water hazard running parallel with the right side fairway and the water hazard protecting the front of a postage stamp size green.

If you want to be tested The South Course at Rancho Las Palmas is the course for you. This course requires shot-shaping ability and putting skills. This is 3218 yard nine with just one par 5 and some difficult par 3’s.

In particular the 391-yard, par-4 ninth can be especially difficult when playing into desert winds. You will need to strike a near perfect tee shot in order to reach in two as the approach shot is a complete carry over a daunting water hazard.

Palm tree lined fairways and rolling terrain winding through the resort community with the San Jacinto Mountains as the back drop make this a great golf excursion.
