The Quarry at La Quinta

It is hard to imagine a golf club more beautiful than The Quarry at La Quinta. It is consistently ranked by Golf Digest’s prestigious biennial list of the top 100 courses in the country and with good reason. Golf Digest’s survey of America’s best new courses, also ranked The Quarry number three in Best New Private Courses.

In 1994 golf design legend Tom Fazio, with Bill Morrow at the helm, set about transforming a rock quarry into one of the nation’s most breathtaking golf courses. He succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. It rises vertically from the floor of the desert up 300 feet to the top of the cove with an alluvial fan be in between. 18 absolutely perfect holes across three gradually climbing elevations, are testimony to one of the most innovative designs in the history of the game.

Spread out over ancient lands that once were settled by Native Americans and gold miners, the landscape design takes into consideration the surrounding Coral and Santa Rosa Mountains, as well as the natural beauty of the Mojave Desert. In 2002 an additional 74 acres were purchased to supplement the more than 350 existing acres and became the site of 29 new pieces of real estate and the Tom Fazio designed Short Course, a 10 hole practice facility.

More than 80,000 indigenous plants offer lush surroundings in tune with nature and the spirit of the old West. Statues of Remington, Frasers, and other famous artists dot the landscape and bring to mind the beauty and dignity of one of the most beautiful deserts on the planet. The Quarry Championship Course with its friendly design assures that golfers rarely have to play uphill. In fact, most of the course is on level fairways with only two or three downhill shots where the course moves from the upper terrain to the quarry floor.

The Quarry is indeed a golf utopia tucked into the cove with near-perfect play conditions. But golf isn’t the only thing to do at The Quarry. Surrounded by beautiful homes and luxury villas, there is also a breathtaking 21,000 square foot clubhouse that is the epitome of casual elegance. With its plank ceilings, wrought-iron fixtures and etched glass partitions it also includes a spacious veranda that looks out over the 9th, 10th, and 18th green. The perfect spot for breakfast or lunch, it also houses a full-service golf shop.

Located a short distance away is a fitness gym, tennis court, pool and spa. There is plenty to do socially as well with a full calendar of events, parties, and galas for members and their guests. Just one more reason why La Quinta is the golden jewel of the Coachella Valley.
